How to read Nightscout reports
Nightscout reports help you look beyond the graph and spot recurring problems: overnight lows, high glucose after meals, excessive variability and limited time in range.
What to check first
- TIR — how much time glucose stays within the target range.
- TBR — how much time glucose is below range.
- TAR — how much time glucose stays above range.
- GMI — an indicator related to average glucose over the reporting period.
- Variability — how much glucose swings up and down.
How to avoid misreading a report
- Do not focus only on average glucose: it can hide large swings.
- Review the night separately: it often reveals the most important problems.
- Look for patterns over several days rather than focusing on a single day.
- Pay attention to prolonged high glucose after meals as well as lows.
What to do next
After reviewing a Nightscout report, it helps to examine the causes of overnight lows and high glucose after meals separately, and check whether the same problems recur at similar times.
